The Sweeny Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) promotes the economic growth of the area and helps small towns compete with large communities/cities. It helps attract businesses while boosting small economies. The SEDC is funded by local sales tax. The SEDC was established by City Council on December 1, 1997.
SEDC members serve 2-year terms, their applications are reviewed by SEDC, and recommendations given to City Council for appointment in September.
The SEDC meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Sweeny Community Center located at 205 W. Ashley Wilson Road.
